July 3rd Wedding

I shot a wedding on the 4th of July weekend. As much as I like the money, it landed on July 3rd. I like to enjoy holidays with family and friends, but after trying to find another photography to do the wedding and having it fall throught I decided to do the wedding. I feel the wedding could have gone better than it did, but overall it went well.

My assistant and backup photographer is usually my wife, but she was unavailable this weekend helping a friend move, so I employed her sister Cassidy as my assistant and back up photographer and I have to say, she is a quick learner and did pretty well for her first professional photoshoot. I’ll post some photos after they have been edited.

Cancer tattoo to Cancer Logo

Well, with more thought, I have come to the conclusion that what I designed is Graphic Design and not a tattoo. I had the inclination that that was true but it took my sister-in-law, a future Graphic Designer in training, to confirm that a bit more. So, it shall be a logo and only a logo. I’m not a tattoo artist, I’m a Graphic Designer.

Cancer Survivor Tattoo

I’m thinking of getting a tattoo for my cancer survivorship. On my way to see a friend get his tattoo done I thought of an idea of getting a tattoo myself. I’ve never thought about it before and have never liked the idea of having a tattoo, but just the thought of getting one that meant something to me and how I survived it hit me. I would design my own tattoo. I’ve had several ideas run through my head and have played with those ideas and so far have nothing to show yet. I don’t want to have a large tattoo, but I also want to have writing and to have legable, I feel that it may have to be larger than I am hoping. Where to get it will be the next question. I’m thinking on the arm towards the socket so it won’t be noticed when at work. But that is still debatable. Will update.

WordPress 3.0

WordPress 3.0 is here finally! After a long wait they have officially launched the new software. It has been available in bata testing format for approx. a month now, but as of today, It is launched. New default theme, new menu builder, slightly new colors, and a bunch of other great upgrades including the full integration of WPMU. Woot!

MailChimp Email Service

Recently at a WordPress WordCamp, Chicago, I learned of an Email Marketing and list management service called MailChimp and though I would check it out and see if they could help. I found myself in total awww over what they have to offer including their free package. What is great about MailChimp is they offer their information free to even those that choose their free membership program for those that have a list of 500 or less. I’m highly impressed by their service so far.

Their completely free account offers you to store up to 500 subscribers and you can send upto 3,000 emails a month. For all packages they offer great tutorials, support design templates and even pdf files with great information on making email marketing work for you if you use MailChimp service or not.

PLUS, you can integrate it into your website with forms that they help you create or for you to even completely customize with your own css. They give you all the tools needed to make your email launch successfully. You can also hook it up to your Google Analytics on your website so you can track your email marking like your website. BUT MailChimp has its own Open/Close rate analytics that are part of the service they provide.

You may or may not have heard of this story. I agree with some points of this article and others I don’t. It is a good read although if you haven’t already read it. Have you ever looked at Graffiti and felt inspired to create something new and exciting?
